Throw all your ideas and crazy schemes in here.
Also, anyone have a good name for this fiasco?

Does it make sense to have a pinned "General guidelines" thread? Throw in some basic tips that everyone agrees on (but may not be readily obvious) like "Build your trade depot inside" and "make sure your emergency drainage mechanism is working correctly *before* you begin flooding your waterways". Basically those things that are learned, painfully, over the course of many failed fortresses. No idea the experience level most people participating have (oh, maybe we should have some type of introductions...)
As for crazy schemes; I've always wanted to get a magma-meets-water trap set up, but I've never gotten a map that had sufficient magma to pull it off (at least, to pull off a repeatable trap). If our map has sufficient quantities of both, I think that's a crazy enough idea to be fun in pursuing.

A pit fall trap that drops people several layers into an underground chamber/refuse pile.
The miasma is meant to torture prisoners in the same chamber.

We should probably look at installing a dwarven panic room early on. Nothing fancy, just some beds, picks and food that can quickly be sealed off from the inside in case the shit hits the windmill. That way if we get overrun by elves/goblins the survivors can hold up until somebody figures out a way to retaliate.
Oh, and suicide booths for nobles and cheese makers.

They make good marksdorfs and miners! Also, name should be whatever random thing we get first.

I think we should take a page from Boatmurdered and, at the end of our year, name a dorf after ourselves, with the custom role of "retired leader." And watch how they die.

Also, thoughts on the use of reveal.exe or other such programs?
I would prefer if we didn't use them and played it blind, but I'm ok either way.

I'm for playing it blind. As an aside, remember that you can set parameters when embarking to select a map with all the essentials.

We need an IRC. I propose a channel on DF's server, irc.newnet.net. DF is #bay12games --- what should we be?

Also, screenshots and story-telling to keep things updated, Boatmurdered-style?

Also, screenshots and story-telling to keep things updated, Boatmurdered-style? But of course. Speaking of which, when someone starts their year, they should start their own thread to log their progress, so we can have a year by year breakdown instead of bogging up one thread.

Yeah... sorry about that. Still finishing up the written account and figuring out how to incorporate pics. Nevertheless I've forwarded on the savefile to Slant/Rhyme so as to not delay anybody. If you want to have a look at the state of the fortress as I left it here's the save: rapidshare.com/files/202264469/region1-spr-302.rar.html

Collapsing several floors along with those humans. Win!
Also, you're all allowed to join the IRC channel if you want.
#Ringfissures on irc.newnet.net
It's getting kinda lonely alone in here, it's usually just me and Slant, or just one of either. So feel free to join. =P
EDIT: Also, wiki updated to year 3.

I've been sort of absent for the past few days, exams are over and I've been celebrating. *cough*
