Well, the post is up for the first year. Hopefully my story crafting is well enough to portray the events that occurred descriptively enough to be entertaining.
Left several "N"otes around the site to try to explain what I was intending with various uncarved bits. Really didn't get a chance to plan out the "kitchen" area, so those buildings are just hastily thrown in a corner. I don't like putting them with the regular workshops for some reason, but feel free to do so. It is, after all, out of my hands now ;D
Ended up restarting from scratch once when I lost 3 dwarfs to !!fire imp fat!!... restarted from embark a second time when my hunter went and got himself chewed up by a cougar..
My apologies if something in my embark screwed over somebody's grand plan; I'm kind of upset that we didn't get sand on the map, but we can at least import bauxite (which I requested alot of), and the map has all the other features we talked about.
Scared the piss out of me when I saw a white "g" come RUNNING straight into my base; turns out our liaison from the mountainhome is a goblin. Really curious what his backstory was, but didn't get a chance to check it out.
Dropped the save on Rapidshare; let me know if it needs to go somewhere else, but I think the 10 downloads we'll get out of that should be sufficient.

Good start. For future updates: Feel free to start your own thread in the Adventure Log for each years. Also, if possible, could we get some pictures to see what's going on? I know you can host them on photobucket and use the message board link they give you, and it'll work with these forums.

Doh! forgot the pictures. Had some issues getting photobucket to work, but I was testing it from work so there could have been some conflict. I'll export a few images and upload them.

In the choice between sand and DOOM (where doom = chasms, fissures, pits, magma), I chose DOOM... Just couldn't get a map generated that had EVERYTHING in it. In fact, most of the seeds I see on the wiki fail to include everything requested.

Having a map with everything we want won't bring as much fun as having to actually put effort in stuff to make sure it works.. Right? Besides, I'm not sure if Boatmurdered even got around to glass production. I don't think they had sand either.

Eh, irrigation will be a little troublesome, but if we have a river I'm 10% sure I won't flood the fortress while making farmland.

Eh, irrigation will be a little troublesome, but if we have a river I'm 10% sure I won't flood the fortress while making farmland. It's pretty easy not to flood everything. I managed not to flood my fort the first time I tried it, and that was on something like me third or fourth fort. However, I didn't include a drainage system, and my fort starved prior to enough water evaporating. Looking back on it, I probably had enough room in the for to simply have it submerged in 1/7 water for a short period of time, and then I would have had a farm. On the other hand, you can always make farms on upper levels, where there is dirt/silt/loam. That way you won't need irrigation.

Hey, pictures are up now. Missed getting a screenshot of the Rhesus invasion, which is unfortunate... Also, I suppose the secret is out now that I play windowed at 1680x1050...

looking at the fort from the download. Oh god is there a lot of obsidian Also, native copper and cinnabar in the south, and a few bits of orpiment and realGAR in the ponds. Why are the ponds dried up, anyway?

Why are the ponds dried up, anyway? Evaporation. It's just that time of year.
