The end of my campaign raises a good question that I like because every player has a different solution - how do you deal with strange moods? I try and figure out everything a moody dwarf could want on my map, but is rare, and immediately stockpile and forbid it as soon as possible.
One time this caused me to fail a mood because I didn't even noticed I hadn't made all the stuff he was supposed to get available and unforbidden. I was like "hurf durf there's all the stuff" and he went berserk ;_;.
Further, how do you deal with berserk dwarves? Babbling and melancholy dwarves are obviously really simple, but your Armoursmith might just be a bit harder to deal with than a goblin thief.
I usually immediately wall up a workshop upon taking of a mood, with one door into it. I used to use cage traps, but ever since I had a berserk dwarf not trigger the cage, I just send my army to deal with him.
TL;DR: chainsaw arms bzzzz

I had a Dyer get a mood at some point. I wanted to wall him in because he wanted some leather ( and I didn't have that), but I figured I'd instead just quickly butcher a cat and stuff.
I was too late, however. He went nuts, chased dwarves around the fortress, I sent in my military. He proceeded to rip apart my Wrestler dwarf, quite literally, mangled a kitten which eventually died, severely wounded another dwarf (which I had found dead some seven tiles further, leaving a trail of blood and some vomit on the spot where he had died), before finally having him killed by my other military.
So yeah.. I wish I had continued the walling, and I think I will do something like that from now on.

To be honest, the only times I've had to worry were when I was missing silk- kept forgetting to bring some ot buy it from the caravans, and I have yet to embark on a map with spiders. If it turns out I don't have something I just station a squad of military dorfs nearby and hope for the best

I build the workshops in such a way that if I don't have what they want, they just starve to death.

As I said before in another thread: cage traps akimbo. Terrariums if possible.

As I said before in another thread: cage traps akimbo. Terrariums if possible. Sans sand on this map, I had to settle for plain ol' wooden traps (got 1/workshop in place before the end of the first year; left room for a total of 3/workshop entrance)

Yeah, but when a berserk dwarf in one of my forts didn't trigger a cage trap, I'm paranoid about them failing. I just use doors now (or glass cages)
